Microgaming has confirmed it will close its MPN poker network in 2020.
In a blogpost on MPN confirming the closure, Alex Scott, Managing Director of MPN’s poker division, wrote that he had been carrying out an extensive review into Microgaming’s poker product, “with input from poker industry experts, independent consultants, and my colleagues around the world.”
“The conclusion of the review was that, for poker to be as successful as possible, we had to adopt a very different strategy and business model. Ultimately, the poker network is not part of that vision,” the blog post stated.

Mr Scott added that a specific date for the closure of the poker network had not yet been settled, and stated that discussions were ongoing. “However, based on the information available now, we expect the network to close in Q2 or Q3 2020.”
Furthermore, he insisted that the network would continue operating as normal until its closure next year, “with a full offering of tournaments, cash games, promotions and live events,” and expressed hope that clients would choose to continue playing on the MPN until it officially shuttered.
Mr Scott assured clients that they did not need to rush to withdraw their funds, and that there was no reason to believe that any of MPN’s poker rooms were in financial difficulty.
“Our plans to close the network have no impact on the safety of your funds,” he affirmed.
He also confirmed that the MPN Poker Tour would be visiting Malta in October for the Battle of Malta, as planned.
Meanwhile, Microgaming CEO John Coleman said that while the network would be closing, it was not the end for poker at Microgaming.
“[Microgaming] is driven to create the most enjoyable entertainment experiences, leading the way with world-class gaming content. Ultimately, this move will help the business to achieve that vision as we follow a new strategic direction for the vertical, details of which will be revealed in due course.”
