A lucky player has won a fortune at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas just one day after the casino reopened after nearly three months in lockdown.
According to Caesars Entertainment Group, the guest, who chose to remain anonymous, was playing the progressive poker game Let it Ride at a table on Friday 5th June, when they struck the big time.
The player took home the jackpot prize of $670,637 (C$903,891).
“Vegas is back!” said Caesars Palace in a winking tweet, while congratulating the winner, who was a Diamond Guest.
It’s certainly a return with a bang for one of Las Vegas’ most iconic and renowned casinos.
Closed casinos in Canada
Casinos all across North America closed down in mid-March to help halt the spread of COVID-19, after large gatherings of people were discouraged or banned.
Most casinos in Canada are still closed at time of writing, even if the adjoining hotels and resorts have since reopened.
This includes Canada’s own Caesars in Windsor, Ontario.
Casinos reopening in the USA
However, on 4th June, the casino hub of Las Vegas in Nevada had what was described as a ‘soft reopening’, with players making their way back to the casino tables.
Its grand reopening – the first of its kind since the casino originally opened in 1966 – was heralded by performers dressed as Caesar and Cleopatra, as well as the popular Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton.
The casino is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to implementing health and safety measures to keep guests and staff members safe.
There is strict social distancing on the casino floor and sanitizer stations throughout the property. All employees will wear masks.
Casinos account for the vast majority of tourism in Las Vegas, and with its main attractions closed, it has struggled to attract visitors.
According to figures reported in USA Today, Las Vegas only had 106,900 visitors in April, just 3% of the visitors it had during the earlier months of the year.
It’s a dismally low figure compared to January and February, when it welcomed more than 3 million visitors.
However, there’s no doubt that people will soon start flocking back to the Strip – especially when they hear news of big wins like this one!
Naturally, players in Canada will be eagerly awaiting news of Canadian casinos re-opening. In the meantime, there are plenty of online casinos where you can satisfy your craving for games!
