It's been a good week for lottery, and a beyond amazing weekend for two particular U.S citizens: both the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots have been cashed out. On Friday, one lucky lotto player from Florida laid claim to a $450 million jackpot from Mega Millions. Not much is known about this lucky winner, except that they have indeed claimed their money. However, the Powerball winner of January 6th, Saturday evening, has yet to come forward with their own winning ticket.
Read the below article for further details.
And we're not talking chump change here, for anyone. This Powerball winner won a massive $559.7 million dollars from their winning ticket. All six precious numbers matched up: 12, 29, 30, 33, 61 for the main set. And 26 for the Powerball number.
This marks the sixth largest Powerball jackpot in its history, and the seventh largest U.S jackpot in lottery history. Now that's an impressive statistic, and definitely one which would make the Powerball winner pleased indeed.
The $559.7 million ticket was sold at a Reeds Ferry Market in Merrimack, New Hampshire. This was reported by Maura McCann, the spokeswoman for the New Hampshire lottery. The store that sold the ticket gets a $75,000 bonus for managing to sell the winning ticket. Rewards all round for everyone. New Hampshire seems to be a popular place for winning – in July 2016, only a year and a half ago, a player from Raymond won a $487 million Powerball jackpot as well.
As already stated, the winner who holds the winning ticket has yet to come forward. They will have a year's chance to consult professionals, such as lawyers, in order to strategize what to do with their huge winnings. It is, after all, a life changing event that requires a great deal of presence of mind and planning to handle.
In fact, it is so life-changing that Charlie McIntyre, the executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery, had some advice to share with the winner:
Winning such an incredible amount of money is truly life-changing, but before the winner begins making plans to buy an expensive yacht or a mansion, I would encourage him or her to take a moment to process what winning this prize means.
He continued on to state that the winner should sign the back of the ticket, a tip that applies to all types of lotteries (including Canadian ones). After all, it is one very special ticket. The odds of winning Powerball are one in 292.2 million – making it a modern miracle if anyone hits the jackpot.
Canadian players can also participate in the Powerball lottery. Online services allow CA lotto players to buy tickets – although we'd wait a while before doing it now. The jackpot has been reset to $40 million for the time being. We can safely say that we'd be pretty happy to win this amount anyway, but it doesn't really hold a candle to $559.7 million.
Our congratulations to the mysterious Powerball winner! May you live out the life of your dreams, all thanks to the power of winning the lottery.
