The theme is exactly what you’d expect from an exotic wild animal theme. It’s an African Savannah safari adventure, where savage creatures rule the land and the reels. Despite the abundance of species Microgaming could have chosen from, it seems the designers got lazy and chose to mix in A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 royals anyway. These are accompanied by much more appropriate zebras, giraffes, rhinos and elephants.
At the top of the food chain is a fierce lion, who roars rather satisfactorily each time a winning combination with his symbol is made. I believe he rolls with the name Kubwa and, as you might guess, he’s the slots highest paying symbol. The tree symbol (which kind of looks like the tree of life) set against a sunset acts as the slot’s Wild. But as wilds go, it doesn’t appear very often, only showing up on the 3 middle reels. However, it does stand in for all symbols bar the scatters.
The soundtrack is fantastic, made up of ambient jungle noises that are coupled with the deep tones of tribal music when you get close to triggering the special features. Unfortunately, the effect is ruined by overlaid artificial sound effects as you spin the reels. The experience feels rather like someone blasting rap music from a boom box as you’re laying peacefully on the beach. The graphics are okay, if a little amateur looking. There’s more animation in the backdrop where large birds intermittently soar across the magnificent sunset scene.
