If you’re a long time slot player, you might remember that Agent Jane Blonde first entered the scene several years ago as a ditzy blonde government agent with an illustration style straight out of a comic book.
In 2019 Microgaming teamed up with Stormcraft Studios and gave Jane a makeover, with a much more sophisticated CGI look and a brand new set of accessories.
This British crime fighter, who blatantly piggybacks off her male counterpart (the clever name alliteration and upper crust accent weren’t very subtle), is back to help us complete our mission and walk away with winnings up to 300 x your bet.
Set against London’s glitzy lamplit Embankment vista, Jane Blonde has returned with a highly polished new image and a rebooted set of missions to complete. The slot’s overall appearance is sleek and glamorous, and this is a feeling compounded by the symbols across the reels.
The luxury watches, fancy cars, laptops, overnight bags, piles of cash and passports have a very sexy and covert allure. Happily, Jane Blonde Returns doesn’t make room for those generic card suits, throwing itself fully into the ‘spy at night’ theme.
Jane Blonde herself makes five separate appearances across the reels, standing in for the wild and as four other high paying symbols represented by our heroine rocking various wigs and becoming disguises.
The soundtrack definitely matched the beautifully rendered graphics, with its low, pulsing tones that plunge you into a feeling of mystique. Perhaps slightly off-putting was the sporadic overlay of Jane herself, belting out unnecessary commentary over the music. I could have done without reminders that ‘the world won’t save itself you know’ and ‘it’s awfully quiet’ whenever I took a break between spins.
But maybe you’re partial to a female British accent, in which case you’ll probably enjoy the chatter.
If you’re the kind of slot player who enjoys a feature-rich game, then you’re probably going to want to terminate this mission. Jane Blonde has indeed returned, but she only seems to have one target. The good news is that it’s pretty easy to understand what’s going on almost as soon as you start spinning.
Agent Jane Blonde Respins
To activate the game’s main feature you’ll need to land two scatters on any two reels. The scatter is represented by the game logo, and it’s the only symbol without Jane or an accessory on it, so it’s hard to miss. So once you land 2 of these Logo Scatters you can watch them turn into sticky wilds while your respin is performed.
If you land another scatter during the respin, then that also becomes sticky and another respin is triggered. The feature will end once you’ve covered all the spaces in wilds, or if you stop landing these transforming scatter wilds.
The Jane Wild
Unfortunately there isn’t much else to look out for in terms of features. But in order to keep up a consistent stream of wins, look out for the Jane Wild, which will help you to continually trigger the respin feature.
The symbol (containing a very attractive close-up of our heroine) will also help you make winning combinations outside of the bonus feature, substituting for almost all symbols.
And that’s a wrap ladies and gents. There isn’t much more to get your head around when it comes to this slot’s gameplay. I’ve never understood the workings of a slot so quickly.
Payouts and Wagering Limits
This rebooted 2019 release plays out much as the original did. With 5 reels, 3 rows and 15 fixed paylines, the slot pays left to right. You have to land 3 matching symbols to have a chance at any cash winnings, but these come along frequently thanks to the Jane Wild.
Agent Jane Blonde Returns will allow you to place bets ranging from C$0.05 and C$400. That’s a flexible enough range to suit any type of slot player.
Rewards get paid out quite frequently, and I didn’t encounter many dead spins. At most you can get 20 x your bet on each line, with an overall maximum payout of 300 x your bet. True, this isn’t the most exciting of potential wins, but for a low-volatility slot it’s kind of what you’d expect.
Agent Jane Blonde Returns
Considering the theme of this slot, Jane Blonde Returns is far from action-packed. Perhaps you’ll enjoy the simplicity of the features that leave no room for confusion, that’s certainly a valid perspective. However, I believe that for most thrill-seeking slot players, this game might be a little too tame.
Overall I would have to say that I was a little disappointed. A lot of effort went into the design of the game, but it seems the added features were something of an afterthought.
On a positive note, the game’s one special feature is very easy to trigger, more so than in any other slot I’ve played. If you bet big there’s a chance of making decent money at 300x your bet but it’s still a very weak proposition for those who like to cash in large.
So is this slot for you? If you’re after the entertainment factor then yes, but if you like big money and a variety of features, then I suggest this is one mission you should choose not to accept.
