Caribbean Anne is a 5 reel, 40 payline video slot from Kalamba Games. Its biggest draw is the vast selection of special features, each promising a pirate’s haul of wealth and riches. The theme has been done before, but this slot works hard to do things a little differently. However, before you get too excited and jump in cash in hand, be warned that it comes with very high volatility and a changeable RTP that puts you at varying risk. Read on to find out if this buccaneering adventure is one worth taking.

Caribbean Anne - Theme and Background
There’s been a little thought put into the theme for Caribbean Anne, because the main character and namesake is a person from history. Who was Anne Bonny? She was the most famous female pirate of all time, although her portrayal in this slot is somewhat more titillating than I imagine the reality was.
The soundtrack, while highly enjoyable, is blatantly ripped off from Pirates of the Caribbean. The design is excellent and animates really well, which makes all the features extra entertaining. The symbols on the grid sit on a backdrop of 1800s styled ships and galleys sailing on the high seas, and are what you might expect from the much loved Golden Era of Piracy. Bombs, guns, skulls and crossed swords sit together with designed up A, K, Q, J, 10, and 9 to make up the grid symbols.
Caribbean Anne - Gameplay
The biggest draw of Caribbean Anne is the fact that players have potential access to 5 different features, including a very tempting jackpot. But what does it take to cash out on each? I’ve explained it all below.
Locking Multiplier Wilds
When an Accumulation Wild symbol hits the reels (that’s Caribbean Anne herself shooting 2 pistols), its frame becomes locked in place. Every 10 spins these locked frames will be transformed into Locked Wilds. These can substitute for all other symbols except the Bonus and Jackpot symbols. The value of the Locked Wilds, and its attached multiplier, is based on your choice of HyperBet (see next).
Caribbean Anne incorporates 4 different HyperBet levels. The easiest way to engage them is by purchasing them outright, but you can opt to wait to land the right amount of Scatters to trigger them for free (be warned that this won’t happen at the drop of a hat). If you want to increase your bet to purchase a HyperBet outright then you can use the HyperBet Selector on the left side of the grid. Here you can choose from different multipliers that will also alter the number of free spins (if you trigger the bonus game) and even the game’s RTP:
- Level 1: 1x multiplier wilds and 7 free spins (RTP 93.52%)
- Level 2: 2x multiplier wilds and 9 free spins (RTP 94.83%)
- Level 3: 3x multiplier wilds and 11 Free Spins (RTP 96.60%)
- Level 4: 5x multiplier wilds and 14 free spins (RTP 97.03%)
There are also Wild Spins, which means that whenever you land a multiplier wild it will stick in place. It will remain in its position for the rest of the bonus, to help you land wins more easily.
Free Spins Bonus
Land 3 Scatters (the symbol of a ship and the word ‘bonus’) to trigger your free spins, but these can only appear on the middle 3 reels. This is really difficult to manage and even after 200+ spins I was left waiting. This bonus game features 2 different types of spins:
- Collection Spins
- Locked Wild Spins
You’ll have the opportunity to win an extra free spin each time you land the extra free spins symbol (this is represented by a bomb).
If you’re too impatient to wait around for the Free Spins Bonus to get triggered via 3 Scatters (and trust me, you may very well reach this point) then you can pay for the privilege of triggering it instantly. All you have to do is visit the Hyper Bonus meter on the right side of the grid and select 1 of 4 options to kick things off immediately. The price is based on your current bet. Depending on which level you choose, the RTP is also adjusted:
- Level 1 (RTP 96.29%)
- Level 2 (RTP 97.14%)
- Level 3 (RTP 97.59%)
- Level 4 (RTP 97.87%)
Probably the most exciting thing about the Caribbean Anne slot is the fact that it has the potential to award 4 differed standalone Bonus Jackpots. And how to unlock them? You’ll have to wait for the scattered Bonus Jackpot symbols to land on a spin. These can appear both during the base game, as well as during the free spins feature:
- 7+ jackpot symbols get you the Bronze jackpot
- 9+ jackpot symbols get you the Silver jackpot
- 14+ jackpot symbols get you the Gold jackpot
- 15+ jackpot symbols get you the Platinum jackpot
Caribbean Anne - Payouts and Wagering Limits
The house edge increases when you select a higher HyperBet or HyperBonus level. At level 4 the RTP goes as high as 97.03% with the HyperBet and 97.87% with the HyperBonus. This means your chances of winning are increased, but so is the price you pay for the opportunity, so hedge your bets carefully. The regular (non-multiplier) Wilds don’t carry that much value in this slot as they substitute only for the regular symbols, excluding the Multiplier Collection, Multiplier Wilds, Bonus, and Jackpot symbols.
The slot’s symbols carry lower than average values, and this is portrayed but the very small wins during the base game. The most valuable symbols is the Wild at 10 x for 5 of a kind. At the bottom of the scale are the Royals (A, K, Q, J, 10, 9) carrying just 0.25 x for 5 of a kind.
Caribbean Anne - Final Verdict
In terms of base game pay outs this could be one of the worst slots around right now. The wins are so low that I could scarcely believe my eyes, and even the multiplier wild spins don’t bring much to the table. The biggest wins come from triggering the free spins feature or landing enough jackpot symbols to scoop up one of 4 prizes. You could get really lucky and land a full screen of locking multiplier wilds for a huge win, but this is a bit of a long shot. I suppose they get away with setting wins so low by offering multiple progressive jackpots, with players putting up with the outrageous amount of dry spins in the hope that they’ll hit the game changing win.
However, unless you love high-risk jackpot slots, I reckon you should stay away from this one.
