Dragon's Chase - Theme and Background

Dragon Chase’s reels are presided over by a golden fire-breathing dragon, who consistently blows fire rings across the reels. There’s a reason for this but we’ll get into that a little further on in this review. Aside from the regal dragon curled around the grid, there’s little else to occupy you visually.

The backdrop features rich red and gold colors that we’ve come to associate with Chinese culture, and below are curling clouds, giving the feeling that the reels are floating in the heavens. The symbols include the usual low value A, K, Q, J, and 10 designed to look vaguely oriental.

Across the grid are a selection of symbols representing items from Chinese culture such as golden lions and frogs, a blue pearl, gold medallions, a wildfire Wild, the jackpot dragon pearl, and the bonus scatter symbol of a golden gong. The soundtrack is better than I expected, doing away with tinny, clanging noises in favor of a less cliched take on Chinese music. In short, everything looks sufficiently Chinese, without going totally over the top as many other slots do.

The Golden Dragon

The focal point of this slot’s design is the imposing golden dragon curled around the reels. During the base game this big guy will frequently uncoil himself to roar out fireballs across the reels.

The number is random (going up to 5), but each one will land on a symbol and transform it into a wild. Once the symbol turns wild, it will remain in place, moving down one position with each spin until it disappears from view.

Dragon Chase is a nicely designed game with a lot going for it. The fire spewing dragon kept things moving along nicely, so spinning didn’t really get boring.

The payouts are lower than I would have liked, even my big win didn’t feel that big. The Free Spins feature also doesn’t reward the player enough, but this is balanced by the fact that special features are easier to trigger than in most slots, giving you multiple stabs at larger wins.

Overall I would say it’s worth a rumble with this dragon, the balanced features mean you’re more likely to walk away without getting burned.
