A quick Google search for ‘What on Earth is a druid?’ will inform you that it’s a priest, magician, or soothsayer in the ancient Celtic religion. NetEnt decided to theme a slot around one of these beings, and it’s not the first time a provider has gone down this route. You might have played Raven’s Eye or Dawn of the Druids which have a similar vibe. If you’re a fan of Celtic culture then you’re in luck with this slot. But if you’re baffled as to why this topic would be paired with spinning reels in the first place, just read on to find out if the prize potential alone is worth sticking around for.

Druids' Dream - Theme and Background
Druid’s Dream is the Xanax of the slot world. I actually entered demo mode and allowed the soothing soundtrack to relax me for a few minutes before I started playing in earnest. It’s all tinkling bells and jingling tones that transported me straight from my couch to a spa. Okay, maybe I’m being a little extra but Druids’ Dream is designed to capture the soft, quiet and mystical features of sacred land laced with magic.
The backstory concerns two Druid priests who decide to summon the spirit of the Wild Bear. It’s not entirely clear why they would want to engage with the savage spirit of a carnivorous beast, but who can ever truly know the mind of a Druid? The design is quite lovely, full of trees, wise forest creatures and intricate rune stones.
There are 4 low value rune stones in blue, green, yellow and red. The mid to high value symbols are made up of orange boulders, crude drums imprinted with bear paw prints, owls and white wolves. The white wolf is the most rewarding symbol giving you 1, 2.5 or 5 times your stake for 3, 4 or 5 on a winning payline. The Scatters are the Druids themselves but they only appear on the bottom of the wild stack on reel 2 or at the top of the wild symbols stack on reel 4 in the base game.
Druids' Dream - Gameplay
Even thought the game has three special features that are quite straightforward, Druids’ Dream has a way of making the gameplay seem confusing. That’s probably because each feature is dependent on the other, creating one large interlinking feature. That’s why it helps to get started already knowing what to expect.
This feature involves a joint effort between the Wilds and the Scatters of the game. All you have to do is land Wild symbols on reel 2 or 4 plus 1 Scatter symbol. You’ll then effectively charge up the reels and win a re-spin with reels 2 and 4 fixed in place. Every charged wild symbol will give you a free re-spin. The scatter symbol and all wilds that triggered the Re-Spin feature will remain in position until the end of the feature.
And what’s a slot without a handful of free spins? In Druids’ Dream these are accessed once you land 2 Scatter symbols on reels 2 and 4. You’ll then kick things off with 6 Free Spins. All Wild symbols landing on reel 2 or 4 together with a Scatter symbol become charged, and each one of these will add on an extra Free Spin. You’ll get another 3 extra spins if you can land a Scatter symbol on reel 3. All the triggering scatters (these will transform into wilds) and wilds will become sticky, helping to boost wins for the duration of the free spins.
The final feature of this mystical game is the Nudge. The activated reels can be nudged several positions until a second Scatter is revealed. It’s activated within the Re-Spins feature if 1 stack of wilds lands with a Scatter symbol and the second wild stack lands without. The feature only comes to an end when re-spins are over or if you land a second Scatter. If this feature is successful it will lead you straight into the Free Spins feature (described above).
Druids' Dream - Payouts and Wagering Limits
The Druid’s Dream slot game has 5 reels, 4 rows and 40 fixed paylines. It pays out both ways which goes some way toward increasing payout frequency. You can place bets starting at C$0.20 and going all the way up to a generous C$400. With a maximum prize of 200 x your bet, playing at the top end could give you tens of thousands in winnings if you get lucky enough to hit on the special features. Unfortunately it’s not a prize big enough to actually make a life-changing difference.
The RTP is bang on 96%, which is right at the industry average and nothing to get upset about. Only players who enjoy long spinning sessions might see this as a slight downer. The symbols in play don’t carry high values, at most you’re looking at a prize of 5 times your bet for 5 of the top paying symbol in a winning combination. That does mean that you need to bank on a special feature streak to walk away with any sort of decent winnings.
Druids' Dream - Final Verdict
I liked this game and its eerily soothing theme. The gameplay could get a little dull outside of the special features but the pretty design does bridge the gap to some extent. With low to medium volatility and a win potential capped at 200 x, it’s likely going to appeal to recreational players. I think that will leave the C$400 bet limit largely untouched. Druids’ Dream is unlikely to ever become a cult classic, but it’s a nice diversion into a dreamy world for those who are looking for a low tempo escape.
