The grid sits on a backdrop of galleons birthed in some exotic harbor, and across the reels you’ll find a series of symbols consistently linked to the Disney interpretation of piracy. Kudos to Pragmatic Play for leaving the Ace to King symbols at home in favor of hooks, coins, parrots, spyglasses, sacks of cash, ships and treasure maps. Gameplay

As slots go, Pirate Gold is one of the more feature-rich options out there. It certainly makes many promises in terms of bonus money to be won. But the question that remains is how these features are triggered, and how often this is likely to happen.

Free Spins

You can scoop up 10 Free Spins when you land 3 or more of the ship’s compass symbol. At this point, Mr and Mrs Pirate will transform into wilds across reels 2, 3, 4 and 5.

The best part is that this feature can be re-triggered if you land a further 3 scatters during your free spins.

Lucky Treasure Bag

You’ll notice bags of loot with values written across scattered across the reels. Those values are jackpot prizes. You should hope to land as many of these as possible with each spin, because if you hit 8 or more you’ll activate the feature.

Once this happens a new screen will flash up, all the symbols which aren’t treasure bags will disappear, and you’ll begin with 3 re-spins. Yes!! Visually Pirate Gold is a treat for the eyes. The graphics are professional and the theme is pleasantly unwavering. I thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack and even after an hour, I felt no urge to hit mute. Yes, the theme is a little cheesy, but who doesn’t love pirates, rum and hidden treasure? As far as I’m concerned, me hearties, that’s never getting old.

In terms of game functionality, I thoroughly enjoyed the special features, but they weren’t easy to trigger. The frequent wins made up for this to a certain extent, as small payouts were sprinkled over almost every other spin.
