Spin Town is one of the newest video slots from Red Tiger Gaming. A 5 reel, 40 payline video slot with an RTP of 96.07% and a maximum win of 400x your bet. It features a whole host of new characters, inspired by 1960s Britain.

The first thing that struck me when I settled in to play this slot was its very unusual setting. No fancy locations for Spin Town, the game is played on an extremely ordinary street manned by traffic lights and invoking an organized (and sometimes disorganized) system of crossings. Confused? Don’t worry, I’ll lay it all out for you below.

The unusual theme is fun and nostalgic, taking us back to retro Britain!

Wins are frequent and you’re unlikely to find yourself dead spinning for long.

The special features and bonus Wilds are plentiful, varied and amusing.

It’s a low variance game with a max payout of 400x your bet, so if you like high risk, high reward this may not be the slot for you.

If you’re the more serious sort you may find the cartoon design just a little bit too silly.

The trade-off of having many special features means no free spins.

Theme and Background

Set on a cartoon street in what I presume is Spin Town, the slot takes on a traffic control theme played out by men and women characters of all ages. These characters, in their never-ending quest to get across the street, are none other than the plentiful Wilds (there are 15 of them). There’s a lot going on and at first it all felt a little random. But when the penny dropped, I couldn’t help but be amused by the creativity of the game designers. The Wild characters will pop up on either side of the road and wait for their turn to cross the street. Crossing is manned, quite rightfully, by a pair of traffic lights. When they turn green, any Wilds you’ve racked up are free to make their way across, mostly moving one reel per spin unless a special feature (described below) gets involved.

Somehow Red Tiger Gaming has succeeded in invoking a sense of nostalgia for old Blighty along the way. The soundtrack complements this with some old school rock ’n roll guitar riffs which overlay the street sounds of tweeting birds and tooting horns. The Wilds themselves are interesting to look at, each designed to complement the era with coiffed hair and oversize spectacles.

Because of Spin Town’s unorthodox layout and large array of characters, I found myself in need of an adjustment period before I fully understood the game and all its features. As mentioned above, there are 15 different characters that serve as a Wilds. There are also several high value symbols consisting of a suitcase full of money, a key, a wallet, a boombox and a motorcycle helmet. Four low value symbols (A,K,Q and J) complete the set.

There are two lots of special features, the ones that link to Wilds and the ones that happen randomly. Here’s how each one works:

Spin Town Music Shuffle wild

Rock ’N Roll Shuffle

This happens when you land three Rock ‘N Roll symbols on any of the reels. You’re rewarded by getting four Wilds to cross the street, picking up bonus wins as they move along with each spin. In case you didn’t pick up on it, this is a nod to the British theme, recreating the iconic Abbey Road Beatles shot.

Guardsmen’s March

The Queen’s Guardsmen also come to life in Spin Town. Land three of these on any of the reels and you’ll activate the Guardsmen Wild symbols of 1×2. These guys can cross the street from both sides, which creates delightful confusion.

Hooligan Advance

And it’s not properly British unless you mix in some football mania. As soon as the player lands three Kick Off symbols, you’ll activate a Hooligan Advance. That means a group of characters (Wilds) will cross the street en masse, hopefully bringing home a win.

Sleepy Wilds Spin Town

Sleepy Wilds

Amusingly, a couple of elderly Wilds can doze off while crossing the street. This means they’re on the reels for longer, increasing your chances of bonus wins.

Speedy Wilds Spin Town

Speedy Wilds

Other Wilds are still in the flush of youth, and two sprightly ones are in good enough shape to move two positions per spin when crossing the street.

Couples Wild

Couples Wilds

And since nothing in life is complete without a little romance, two loved up Wilds can meet each other on the street. They will displace the umbrella and an Umbrella Wild will appear, which yields a double multiplier.

Payouts and Wagering Limits

Red Tiger Gaming markets Spin Town as low volatility, offset by high frequency winning combinations. That might be a little off-putting for a certain type of slot player who’s in it for the big payouts. That’s why I think the game is designed for those seeking profitable entertainment, and the playful theme and characters could support that theory.

The wagering range is set between 0.20 and 200.00. That means 20 coins in play across 40 lines. Because your maximum payout is just 400x your bet, simple math will tell you that even at the highest stake, 80,000 is the highest the jackpot will go. Where multiple wins occur on several win lines, the total win values are added up. If more than one win occurs on the same payline, the largest win is paid out.

But the lack of huge jackpots doesn’t mean that playing the game is without its merits. I personally prefer a steady series of small wins rather than sweating it out and waiting for one huge pay off. Frequent wins means bigger entertainment value and Spin Town definitely offers top notch amusement.

Final Verdict

Spin Town

Spin Town doesn’t take itself too seriously and is focused on providing a good time for anyone looking for some slot fun. You’ll find yourself hanging around just to see the special features in action and there are certainly plenty of those.

If you’re more of a straight shooter after large profits, Spin Town’s silliness and low volatility might cause an eye roll or two. But if you’re down for a little fun with the added kicker of potential decent profit, there are few other slots ready to offer this level of smart animation.
